Greenlight is proud to showcase the completion of Grove House, a high-spec private residential project in South Dublin that blends architectural ambition with precision-led construction. Delivered over 12 months for a private client, this start-to-finish extension and refurbishment transforms an existing home into a light-filled, modern, and energy-efficient residence. Shortlisted for the Building & Architect of the Year Awards 2024 in the “House Extension Refurbishment” category.

Designed by Altu Architects, the project centres on a distinctive pavilion concept. A series of interconnected ground-floor pavilions wrap the existing structure, opening the home toward the gardens and creating clear visual connections throughout the internal spaces. Carefully framed vistas draw the eye from one area to another, reinforcing a sense of flow, cohesion, and openness.

A key design feature is the fully glazed double-height space, which elevates the experience of the home by drawing natural light deep into the interior and expanding the vertical volume of the living environment. This sense of permeability, allowing spaces to feel connected yet calm, was a primary architectural intention, achieved through the extensive use of full-height glazing and considered material selection.

  • Greenlight delivered the full construction programme, including:

  • A complete structural extension and interior refurbishment

  • Installation of PV panels for sustainable energy generation

  • Full underfloor heating system

  • Integration of a high-efficiency heat pump

  • Replacement of the existing roof structure to accommodate an additional bedroom with a feature dormer

A bright interior space with large floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking a green garden. Light wooden bench seating runs along the window, and sunlight casts strong geometric shadows across the pale floor and wall.
A contemporary two-storey house with brick and rendered exterior, large glass windows, and a mix of flat and pitched roofs. The home is surrounded by a manicured lawn, trees, and a paved walkway under a bright, cloudy sky
A modern open-plan kitchen and dining area with polished concrete floors, black cabinetry, three pendant lights, and large sliding glass doors opening to the garden. Wooden steps lead down into the space.

These enhancements significantly improve the home’s energy performance, comfort levels, and long-term resilience.

By using noble, tactile materials and maintaining a clean relationship between form and function, the project realises the architect’s vision of a modern, warm, and enduring family home. The result is a thoughtfully crafted residence that is both architecturally striking and deeply practical for everyday living.

Grove House stands as a testament to what can be achieved when high-quality design meets construction excellence—and Greenlight is honoured to have delivered it from concept to completion.
